Guides and Tour Operators


Belize has a very strong guide and tour operator licensing program. Guides are required to master subjects such as first-aid, CPR, the history of Belize, ecology of the rainforests and the reef, marine life, and hospitality service.

The Belize guide licensing program is Belize's method of preserving the quality of the guide profession. It also gives guests in our country a way to make sure they are engaging a qualified and reputable guide. Therefore, we ask that you help us by using only licensed guides during your Belize visit.

This page will be updated as new lists are released by the Belize Tourism Board or the Placencia Tourist Center.

How We Select Your Guides

The Placencia area is blessed with some very good guides.  But, just like the rest of us, some of them are very good at one type of activity or guiding, and not very good at others.

We try our best hard to match each of our clients not only with the best guide available, but also with the guide we think will best fit with each client's goals for their stay in Placencia.

For example, Placencia has some great fly fishing guides.  But, some of them are good with serious anglers who already have a lot of salt water experience, while others have a knack for teaching beginners.  Same with snorkeling, diving, ruins and other guides.

Attempting to make a good match is one of the reasons we place so much emphasis on our email correspondence -- that's how we get to know you and pick your guide.

Of course, sometimes there's a mismatch.  And, if there is, let us know -- we'll do everything we can to remedy the situation.  Almost all guides here are free-lance, so there's usually a pool from which to draw another guide who may be a little better fit.  And, the guides won't get their feelings hurt.  They want you to enjoy your vacation, too, and know that sometimes a guide/client match just doesn't work.
